Joe Clarke's Masterful On-Drive - County Championship
Rothesay County Championship, Nottinghamshire vs Warwickshire, Edgbaston, August 28, 2026
Coaching Breakdown
Joe Clarke displayed exceptional balance and timing with a fabulous straight on-drive to reach his century.
His head remained still, eyes focused on the ball, and his front foot moved decisively towards the pitch of the delivery, allowing for a full extension of the bat.
This technique ensures maximum power transfer through the shot, driving the ball cleanly along the ground. Young batsmen should practice getting their front foot close to the ball and hitting through the line with a straight bat.
Today's Training Drill
Use a throwdown or bowling machine to feed half-volleys on the pads, focusing on a strong front-foot stride and hitting the ball straight back past the bowler.
